Summary of Position:

The Development Assistant is responsible for implementing and monitoring a successful membership communications program, including informing and executing an annual physical and electronic development communications plan. The Development Assistant coordinates development activities that include membership mailings and emails/digital communications, represents ICL at special events, gathers and interprets data and analytics on members, and makes gratitude calls. The Development Assistant also helps identify prospects for possible higher gift amounts based on member history and research using ICL’s available technology. The Development Assistant is supervised by ICL’s Development Director.

Responsibilities

  • Membership Acquisition and Retention (70%):  
    • Implement annual development communications calendar, including drafting all physical and electronic mailings such as renewals, appeals, ED updates and prospects, and coordinating monthly variable data direct mail campaigns.
    • Support the Development Associate in growing the monthly giving program in both member numbers and program revenue.
    • Make donor gratitude calls.
    • Work with the engagement team to plan timely follow up after events with various opportunities to stay involved in ICL’s work. 
    • Work with the engagement team on cross-department events.
    • Coordinate with development, communications, and engagement teams for creative, member-focused messaging and a multi-channel approach.
    • Coordinate communications for annual fundraising campaigns and initiatives, including Idaho Gives, Wild Idaho!, annual member drive, Giving Tuesday, and year end.
    • Manage development volunteer systems: maintain data on volunteer engagement, establish intake systems, provide relevant info to the development team when volunteer support is needed.
  • Data Entry and Analysis (25%): 
    • Use Salesforce for data analysis and data mining.
    • Prepare member information and statistics for reporting to staff and board. 
    • Work with the Development Data Specialist to analyze performance of development communications.
    • Assist Development team with membership/donor segmentation based on interest level and deliver specific communications to deepen relationships
    • Work with Development Team to analyze member and door potential for increase gifts
    • Manage departmental and cross-departmental projects in Asana.
  • Other Tasks (5%)
    • Participate in ICL meetings, retreats, etc. as needed and complete all required paperwork (timesheets, work plans, etc). 
    • Other tasks as assigned.

Required Skills/Abilities

  • Clear and effective written and verbal communication skills.
  • Strong organizational skills with a focus on attention-to-detail and accuracy.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and projects without compromising quality or deadlines.
  • Experience with data management, including reporting, benchmarking and data analysis.
  • Understanding of standard nonprofit fundraising and development practices.
  • Ability to work collaboratively with a team, while also showing strong self-initiative.
  • Willingness to learn and grow.
  • Receptive to learning and utilizing new and changing technologies and systems.
  • Dedication to ICL’s mission of protecting Idaho’s environment.
  • Commitment to ICL’s DEIJ plan and a desire and ability to work with diverse populations.

Compensation and Benefits:
This position is full-time and located in Boise, Idaho. Idaho Conservation League offers a comprehensive wage and benefits package, generous benefits—paid health, dental, and vision insurance, and a Simple IRA with a 3% match. Salary for this position is $46,500+, depending on experience. The Idaho Conservation League’s programs and employment are open to all.
