The Idaho House and Senate Democrats seek a dynamic, highly-organized individual with strong communication skills to fill the fast-paced role of Communications Director. The role reports directly to the House and Senate leaders, while also serving all caucus members.
The position is based in our Boise office, with on-site responsibilities at the Idaho Statehouse during the legislative session (January-March). This is an exempt, full-time salaried position, with benefits negotiable as part of the package. Compensation package is commensurate with experience with a minimum salary range of $60,000-$70,000 annually.
Qualifications:
The successful candidate must:
· Have demonstrated capacity in juggling competing priorities and responding to multiple stakeholders
· Be proactive and able to take initiative, identifying new ways to expand Democratic caucus messaging
· Assist in writing clear, concise and compelling pieces about a range of complex issues, often with a very short turnaround time
· Understand messaging, media relations and know how to use and proliferate messaging via social media venues (Facebook, Instagram, Twitter/X, TikTok, etc.)
Desired qualifications include:
· Prior direct or related work experience in this field
· Knowledge of current public policy issues in Idaho
· Graphic design and experience representing data graphically and digitally
· Experience with video editing, event organizing, and donor communications
· Experience working with digital platforms such as Google, Facebook, WordPress, and other digital election platforms like NGP and VoteBuilder
Job Duties:
· Participate in developing and implementing a communications strategy, for the caucus
· Develop and execute earned media strategy during the legislative session
· Provide caucus members with media assistance year-round. This includes helping with talking points and preparation (and filming) of media and public appearances
· Help lead the Democratic caucus rapid response program to hold the Republican Party caucus accountable for its words and deeds
· Manage media requests, develop and build relationships with local and national reporters and bloggers covering Idaho politics, including maintaining a media contact list.
· Assist in writing press releases and op-eds, both planned and on short notice.
· Facilitate press conferences and other earned media events, including writing media advisories and follow-up to ensure press attendance
· Develop and manage a robust social media program as per the budget provided
· Draft and send occasional e-newsletters and fundraising emails
· Maintain the Democratic caucus website
· Assist with fund development activities, including communication and event planning.
