Overview

Radio Boise is seeking a passionate and experienced Development Director to lead our fundraising and development. The Development Director will play a critical role in advancing our mission to provide diverse, independent, and community-driven media programming. The ideal candidate will have a proven track record of success in nonprofit fundraising, donor stewardship and team leadership, along with a commitment to community engagement and public service.

Job Purpose

  • Design, implement and execute annual fundraising plans to meet fundraising goals.
  • Provide leadership to anyone involved in fundraising for the organization.
  • Prepare and present monthly reports on progress towards fundraising goals to the Executive Director and Board of Directors.
  • Secure Sponsors for exhibits and special events.
  • Manage portfolio of funders and sponsors.
  • Manage grant writing and identification of new grant opportunities.
  • Collaborate with the Executive Director to assure terms of grants and reporting are met.
  • Help plan and execute special events, Radiothon twice a year with other staff members.

Fundraising Strategy and Execution

  • Develop and implement a comprehensive fundraising strategy aligned with Radio Boise's mission, vision, and strategic goals.
  • Identify, cultivate, and solicit major donors, corporate sponsors, foundations, and other funding sources to support the station's operations and programs.
  • Manage all aspects of individual giving campaigns, including direct mail appeals, online fundraising, donor prospecting, and donor stewardship.

Underwriting Management

  • Obtain underwriting support for Radio Boise from current and potential customers, including renewals and event-based underwriters.
  • Prospect and obtain new underwriting for the station.
  • Take initiative toward problem solving and recommending creative underwriting solutions for clients and support staff.
  • Learn and be able to navigate the computer software that enables scheduling, documentation and invoicing for all underwriting activities.
  • Create, review for accuracy, and file daily/monthly logs.
  • Generate Invoices, per account, each month and provide that information to A/R.
  • Follow up on invoices if necessary on a monthly basis.
  • Be able to work independently, and collaboratively within a team environment.
  • Represent Radio Boise proudly and professionally to the nonprofit and business community.
  • Work with staff to create effective promotions and campaigns for Radio Boise clients.
  • Be familiar with and conduct all activities in compliance with the relevant underwriting guidelines and regulation of the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) for non-commercial radio.

Desired Skills and Abilities

  • Good organizational skills and ability to handle multiple tasks and roles, patiently and professionally.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with multiple audiences ranging from Radio Boise staff. and volunteers to artists and event vendors through Slack, Google Apps, Volunteer Local, e-mail, and phone.
  • Capable of working as a member of a team and independently.
  • Excellent proofreading and writing skills.
  • Comfortable learning and implementing new technologies and equipment within an organizational setting, as well as instructing others.
  • Natural multi-tasker capable of coordinating multiple projects with strong organizational skills that supports a culture of volunteering at an independent media outlet. 

Minimum Qualifications

  • Experience in nonprofit fundraising, development, or related field, with a proven track record of success in securing major gifts, grants, sponsorships.
  • Leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills, with the ability to manage and motivate volunteers, donors, and stakeholders.
  • Excellent writing, editing, and presentation skills, with experience in grant writing, donor communications, and fundraising materials development.
  • Demonstrated ability to think strategically, set goals, develop plans, and execute initiatives to achieve fundraising targets and organizational objectives.
  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience in a related field. 
  • Desired computer skills include Adobe and Microsoft Office software, Google Apps, VolunteerLocal or Quickbooks online.
  • Regular duties include bending, sitting, lifting, and driving. 
  • Participate in Radio Boise conducted events and activities as reasonably appropriate.

Schedule

Hours are flexible, and may include evenings and weekends, but must include consistent office hours for staff and volunteer support. During peak event season and during pledge drives, weekend work will be required and schedule may require overtime to be approved in advance.
