Job Overview / Summary:

City of Good purchases and delivers locally-sourced produce and ready to eat meals to neighbors experiencing food insecurity; runs two restaurants sites; operates a catering venture; and works with a wide variety of partner organizations and agencies. Programs and operations are funded through individual donors, grants, and earned revenue sources. 

The accountant is responsible for ensuring that all revenue and expenses are tracked meticulously and following all accounting best practices, ensuring our long-term sustainability and success.

Key Accountabilities: 

  • Perform basic bookkeeping duties including but not limited to Accounts Receivable, Accounts Payable, invoicing, grant tracking, bank reconciliation
  • Oversee payroll processing
  • Prepare accurate monthly financial reports for board and executive director
  • Partner with executive director to build annual budget and track spending to budget
  • Leverage accounting software and IT systems to effectively perform duties
  • Complete all tasks to the highest ethical and professional standards, and in accordance with generally accepted accounting principles for non-profit entities and in accordance with the organization’s mission, values, and universal standards
  • Prepare reports as needed to assist management in interpreting City of Good’s financial position and in support of program managers
  • Work with COO and auditor to prepare for and respond to annual audit 
  • File annual report with the Office of the Secretary of State
  • Assist with other bookkeeping and administrative duties as assigned

 

Job Requirements:

  • Demonstrated experience in knowledge of accounting theory and practices for nonprofits
  • Experience allocating, tracking, and reporting on grant funding
  • High-level of computer literacy and confidence in standard office software, QuickBooks, and Excel 
  • Self-directed learner and independent worker with the curiosity and capacity to learn quickly and absorb information
  • Unparalleled attention to detail 
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality and represent organization in a professional manner to all customers, vendors, and internal personnel

  • Position directly reports to: chief operating officer
  • Essential relationships: executive director, program manager, finance committee, program associate
