PRIMARY FUNCTION

The Director of Development works with the Executive Director and Board of Directors to plan and execute resource development strategies and activities and monitors progress against goals. Supports Executive Director and Board in the cultivation and solicitation of major gifts and grants from individuals, corporations, foundations, government agencies and others.

 KEY ROLES (Essential Job Responsibilities):

Leadership

Provide leadership and direction to the Executive Director and Board of Directors in the effective implementation of all development activities required to fund Club operations and deliver programs within the community.

Planning

In collaboration with the Executive Director and Board, develop and implement a strategy for single and multi-year resource development efforts:

  • Research and analyze individual, agency, corporate, foundation donor base and recommend and implement solicitation, moves management and stewardship strategies.
  • Oversee planning and implementation of annual campaign.
  • Prepare and present proposals for corporate and foundation support.
  • Support special events, including obtaining sponsorships, soliciting gifts, managing guest list, and preparing printed materials and publications.
  • Provide support for various fundraising projects/initiatives assigned by Executive Director.
  • Evaluation development activities and identify opportunities to improve results.
  • Train board members to participate in solicitation and other income development activities.
  • Support board Sustainability Committee and other ad hoc committees responsible for planning and implementing fundraising events and development activities.

Resource Management

Participate in the development, implementation and monitoring of the Club’s annual budget, control expenditures within budget and maintain donor and financial records in accordance with acceptable standards.

Partnership Development

  • Develop and maintain strategic alliances with key stakeholders, community leaders, major funders, local officials, and other youth serving and community organizations.
  • Develop collaborative partnerships with Club staff, consultants, vendors, funders and service providers to establish and maintain positive and professional relationships.

Marketing and Public Relations

  • Oversee the development and implementation of a strategic communications plan.
  • Evaluate marketing and communication activities and identify opportunities to improve results.
  • Ensure the visibility of club activities and maintain positive public relations.
  • Manage brand awareness and maintain brand compliance.

ADDITIONAL RESPONSIBILITIES:

Ensure the development of public relations documents for use in the promotion of fundraising and education of the public, including press releases.

SKILLS/KNOWLEDGE REQUIRED:

  • Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university preferred.
  • A minimum of three years of experience in non-profit agency operations, specifically in the fundraising field, sales/marketing or equivalent experience.
  • Considerable knowledge of fundraising techniques, and sources of funding for non-profit agencies and organizations.
  • Knowledge of the general policies, procedures, principles and practices of non-profit organizations (youth development services preferred).
  • Ability to organize and coordinate fundraising operations.
  • Strong oral and written communication skills.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with Club staff, Board of Directors, donors, volunteers, community groups, and other related agencies.
  • Knowledge of donor database management.
