Who We Are

Big Brothers Big Sisters of Idaho is on a mission to ignite the potential in every child by building strong and enduring mentoring relationships that change lives for the better, forever.

We are a dynamic, mission-driven team of professionals who are empowered, engaged, and ambitious—committed to making a measurable difference in our community, through our community. We work collaboratively and boldly, never afraid to challenge the status quo if it means a better future for Idaho’s youth.

In 2025, we’re proud to celebrate 45 years of mentoring in Idaho—45 years of connection, growth, and life-changing impact. We’ve earned a strong reputation as an award-winning agency in the Treasure Valley and among the 275 Big Brothers Big Sisters affiliates nationwide. And we’re just getting started. Big things are on the horizon—and we’re looking for a passionate leader to help us get there.

The Challenge

We’re looking for a Director of Development who is passionate about people and purpose—someone who finds genuine joy in building relationships and creating meaningful connections that drive impact. This is a key leadership role for someone who’s ready to jump in with fresh ideas, strategic thinking, and the energy to grow our development efforts to new heights.

You’ll oversee the full scope of our philanthropic strategy—from grants and corporate partnerships to individual giving and fundraising events—to meet, and exceed, agency budget expectations. You’ll lead with authenticity and heart, balancing strategy with compassion as you inspire donors, partners, and colleagues alike.

From stewarding long-term relationships to identifying new funding opportunities, you'll play a central role in ensuring Big Brothers Big Sisters of Idaho can continue to serve more youth, more effectively, every year.

If you're a collaborative leader with a head for growth and a heart for service, we’d love to meet you. Please send your cover letter and resume to Hillary at hillary(at)bbbsidaho.org.

What You’ll Do

As our Director of Development, you’ll lead with strategy and heart to grow our mission through meaningful relationships and smart, sustainable fundraising. Your work will directly fuel our ability to serve more youth through one-to-one mentoring across Idaho. Here’s what your role will include:

  • Build and nurture authentic, long-term relationships with donors—individuals, partners, and sponsors—ensuring they feel valued, connected, and inspired to stay engaged. Prioritize donor retention and foster a culture of gratitude across all touchpoints.
  • Create and manage a multi-channel fundraising calendar that includes appeals, campaigns, and donor engagement initiatives to meet agency’s income expectations.
  • Lead and support the Development Team, fostering a collaborative and high-performing culture.
  • Contribute to strategic planning, goal setting, and budgeting, ensuring fundraising is an integrated part of our agency’s long-term vision.
  • Work with the Board of Directors, engaging them as advocates, connectors, and champions of our fundraising efforts.
  • Plan, execute, and evaluate two major fundraising events each year, along with several smaller community engagement opportunities.

What You’ll Need to Succeed

  • A deep passion for our mission to ignite the potential of youth through mentorship and connection.
  • Proven experience guiding and mentoring a team, with the ability to lead through inspiration, trust, and collaboration.
  • A successful track record of cultivating and soliciting major gifts, planning and executing campaigns, and meeting or exceeding fundraising expectations.
  • Knowledge of current trends in philanthropy and sponsorship, and the ability to apply best practices to maximize support for BBBS.
  • Exceptional relationship-building skills, with a talent for understanding donor values, motivations, and community impact goals.
  • Strong financial acumen, with experience managing development budgets and donor accounts.
  • Comfort working in a fast-paced, evolving environment, with the initiative and flexibility to adapt and respond to shifting priorities.
  • Excellent communication skills—both written and verbal—with a high level of professionalism and discretion.
  • Experience in operating CRM systems (e.g., Salesforce) for tracking donor interactions and reporting.
  • A Bachelor’s degree or 4+ years of relevant professional experience in development, nonprofit leadership, or a related field.
  • A valid Idaho driver’s license and current vehicle insurance.
