The Conservation Voters for Idaho family of organizations includes Conservation Voters for Idaho, Inc., Conservation Voters for Idaho Education Fund, and Conservation Voters for Idaho Action Fund (PAC). Together, they work to create the political environment to protect the natural environment by engaging Idahoans who care about our public lands, natural environment, and a thriving and equitable democracy. Conservation Voters for Idaho’s (501(c)(4)) works to influence environmental policy by electing pro-conservation leaders, holding elected officials accountable, shaping sound environmental policy, and defending free and fair elections. Conservation Voters for Idaho Education Fund’s (501(c)(3)) mission is to inform, engage, and empower Idahoans to protect our democracy, natural environment and healthy communities. Conservation Voters for Idaho Action Fund (PAC) campaigns for conservation and democracy champions.


CVI is seeking an enthusiastic, collaborative and innovative leader to serve as our next Development Director. The qualified candidate will be a goal-driven and self-motivated individual with significant experience in fund development. The Development Director will lead all aspects of the CVI’s fundraising work including individual and major donors, corporate donors, grants and events. This is a director-level leadership role tasked with expanding the organization’s donor base and revenue streams in order to meet our programmatic needs. The ideal candidate will have experience with 501(c)(4) and/or PAC fundraising and knowledge of Idaho funders.


The Development Director will grow, cultivate, sustain, and develop robust relationships with CVI’s donor network to significantly increase and diversify CVI’s Operations revenue and overall impact. The qualified candidate will be able to learn and demonstrate knowledge of CVI’s programs including public lands, clean energy, voting rights, racial justice and equity and political campaigns. The Development Director will provide direction and accountability to the Executive Director, staff, and Boards of Directors. This position will report to the Executive Director and have the support of the Operations & Fundraising Associate. In the future, they may directly supervise staff members.


Primary Tasks and Areas of Responsibility

  • Develop and implement development programs for all CVI organizations that include individual donors, major donors, corporate donors and grants to ensure a diverse and sustainable funding base;
  • Develop and execute an ambitious, creative, cost-effective and efficient Development Plan for CVI, complete with hard-number goals and deadlines for measurable deliverables;
  • Work collaboratively with other CVI staff to leverage different skills and experience as needed when cultivating prospective donors and fundraising efforts;
  • Build and develop board capacity and goal-setting to enhance fundraising impact;
  • Working with program staff, oversee grant writing and seeking new grant opportunities, ensuring timely submission of grant applications and timely reporting of existing grants;
  • Oversee the planning and successful execution of CVI’s annual fundraising events, including Green Tie gala;
  • In partnership with the Executive Director, identify, develop and cultivate major donor prospects and execute successful strategies;
  • Oversee and support fundraising emails, direct mailing appeals and form letter thank you notes;
  • Manage the Board Fundraising & Events Committee;
  • Maintain strong working knowledge of Idaho’s environmental/political landscape;
  • Participate in staff meetings, board meetings, and national meetings, including presenting updates when necessary.


Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
Applicants should have:

  • 5 - 7 years' experience cultivating, soliciting, and stewarding donors through a variety of channels;
  • Experience identifying and successfully cultivating major gifts;
  • A strong commitment to racial justice, equity, and inclusion and demonstrate an understanding of local and state political and cultural dynamics;
  • Ability to quickly learn CVI’s programs and priority issues to effectively communicate the varied work with donors;
  • Demonstrated experience with fundraising in the nonprofit and/or political sector;
  • Demonstrated track record of identification, cultivation and successful stewardship of individual and institutional donors;
  • Experience working with a Board of Directors to support fundraising efforts;
  • Experience with grant writing and/or management;
  • Passion for the organization’s mission with a desire to be an ambassador for CVI;
  • Relationship builder and people person;
  • Proven leadership and team management skills;
  • Strong time management skills and ability to work in a deadline driven environment;
  • Expert written and verbal communication skills;
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and able to collaborate effectively;
  • Ability to represent our organizations in a variety of environments;
  • Ability to work under own initiative, as well as part of a team;
  • Ability to work a flexible schedule and travel within Idaho as needed;
  • Demonstrate cultural competency and a commitment to equity and inclusion as organizational practice and culture;
  • Working knowledge of Google Workspace and CRM donor databases (CVI uses EveryAction).

Preferred applicants will have:

  • 1 - 2 years’ experience supervising employees;
  • 501(c)(4) and/or PAC fundraising experience.


Education

  • High school diploma or GED required;
  • Bachelor’s degree in related areas or equivalent combination of education and experience preferred;
  • Certificates in fundraising a plus.

Compensation

This is a full-time position based in Boise, ID. CVI offers a hybrid work schedule with both in-office and remote work options; this position will be required to work in the office routinely and for meetings, as required by the position supervisor.

This is a FLSA exempt position at CVI’s Director level. Salary range is $70,000-$85,000 and will be dependent upon experience and skills.
