Description of Position
The Family Strengthening Youth Development Coordinator is responsible for the coordination and delivery of youth programming, elementary age through young adults. The objective of the programming is to engage youth and parents in building Five Protective Factors, helping to strengthen family bonds and build stronger relationships within the family unit. The ideal person for this position is dedicated to growth and development and enjoys celebrating successes as a team.
Essential Job Functions related to Family Strengthening Education Program
- Become familiar with the STRONG Curriculum foundation and the Five Protective Factor framework outlined in the curriculum.
- Create lesson plans from a research-based family curriculum and teach prearranged classes from elementary ages through young adults.
- Arrange and manage childcare for participants’ children, ages birth - 5 years.
- Conduct courses on site, in office or virtually.
- Correspond in a timely manner to family requests by phone or email.
- Connect families to area resources when requested.
- Promote course offerings to professional and personal contacts and outlets.
- Provide social media content for marketing purposes.
- Participate in community events and conferences to increase program success, and for personal growth and development.
- Increase program participation by networking and partnering with area agencies and programs.
- Notify the Family Strengthening Director when new policies and/or procedures need to be updated.
Program Expectations
- Attend Family Strengthening Education Program weekly meetings and bi-monthly All-Staff meetings, as well as pre-arranged meetings with existing and potential partners
- Attend bi-weekly one on one meetings with Family Strengthening Director
- Represent Family Advocates and the Family Strengthening Education Program positively at events, in the community, and on social media.
- Support the Family Strengthening team, volunteers, participants, interns, service learners and other Family Advocates staff.
- Data entry and reporting using Apricot database.
Preferred Skills
- Teaching experience with children and teens, either in person or virtually.
- Understanding of data collection and data processes.
- Ability to communicate effectively.
Minimum Qualifications:
- Be at least 21 years of age
- Complete and pass Idaho Supreme Court background check inclusive of national sex offender registry and Idaho Department of Health and Welfare Child Protection registry check.
- Able to work a flexible schedule (including evenings).
- Maintain reliable and insured transportation as well as a valid driver’s license.
- Have timely and reliable attendance at all meetings and engagements.
- Be well organized, work independently, and meet deadlines.
- Maintain a professional appearance.
- Maintain accurate records, documentation, confidentiality, and professional boundaries.
- Must support and promote the mission and vision of Family Advocates.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Bilingual (Spanish and English)
- Experience with Apricot database
- Experience working in an educational setting
- Bachelor or Master’s degree in education, management, psychology, child development, or related field
- CPR and First Aid trainer or willing to be trained within 60 days of hire.
