Summary of position:

The Legislative Fellow will assist the Government Relations Associate and the External Relations Team in carrying out strategic priorities on issues related to legislation and outreach during the 2026 Idaho legislative session. The Fellow will be expected to attend committee meetings at specifically scheduled times, which may be outside the normal work day, and complete and distribute updates by a deadline.

This position will be based out of the ICL Boise office, with some remote work possible. Attendance at hearings in the Idaho State Capitol will be required.

Wage: $23.50/hour. Average 35-40 hours/week. Eligible for benefits
Classification: Non-exempt, term limited position
Location: Boise, ID
Date: January-March (12-week commitment, start date is approximate)

Responsibilities:

  • Tracking legislation: Conduct research on legislative proposals that would impact land, water, wildlife, climate, and other conservation-related topics, assist in preparation of testimony, written communication, and attend committee hearings.
  • Engagement: Assisting in the preparation of weekly legislative updates, working with the Engagement Team to alert ICL supporters when action is necessary, supporting events, and encouraging testimony related to legislative topics. 
  • Work in coordination with partner groups to support mobilization and constituent recruitment when necessary. 

Skills needed: 

  • Strong analytical and communication skills required. 
  • Ability to quickly read and comprehend legislation from a conservation angle.
  • Communication and social media experience is a plus. 
  • Background in natural resources, political science, and/or state/federal policy helpful, but not required.

What you will learn: 

The overall goal of the Legislative Fellowship is to provide real-world conservation experience to those interested in learning more about the politics of conservation in Idaho. The fellow will develop an in-depth understanding of the legislative process, as well as an understanding of statewide conservation and natural resource policy issues. Active students may be eligible to earn university credits.
