Job Summary:

The FSCA will work closely under the direction of the Food Safety and Compliance Manager to support compliance to food and workplace safety disciplines. This position focuses on building and maintaining strong processes and procedures to ensure compliance standards are met statewide to uphold the safety commitments of both employee and neighbor as part of a core value of The Idaho Foodbank. Principle Duties and Responsibilities

  • Conduct regular monitoring of warehouse tasks and fleet activities through job shadowing and demonstration to ensure processes are being followed correctly
  • Manage training program for food and workplace safety to ensure scheduling is conducted and training activities are completed in a timely manner
  • Coordinate fire drills and ensure successful completion statewide, provide corrective measures as necessary and recognize retraining opportunities
  • Monitoring of facility through regular walkthroughs of building and exterior grounds; participate in regular inspections with operations and logging collected data; coordinate with Branches on inspection findings
  • Follow up with corrective action on inspection findings, product findings or customer complaints
  • Review and maintenance of regular documentation of both food and workplace safety disciplines
  • Maintenance of SDS program
  • Ensure adequate training content is established
  • Monitor product recalls by regulatory bodies
  • Provide assistance with donation inquiries as it relates to food safety
  • Assist with food safety audit preparations
  • Conduct product inspections as necessary to determine safety and quality, including compliance to labeling regulations
  • Assist in developing procedures as identified and ensure accurate process is captured by job shadowing and task observation
  • Be a resource for all employees statewide in food and workplace safety; communicate with partner agencies on necessary food safety information
  • Actively participate on The Idaho Foodbank Safety Committee and maintain and distribute minutes
  • Communicate any problem or opportunity for improvement to the Food Safety & Compliance Manager.

 Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Required

  • High school diploma required. Preferrable Bachelor’s Degree in the sciences or equivalent discipline OR 1+ years’ experience in food handling either through food service, manufacturing or warehousing and familiar with best practices for food safety and/or occupational safety and health
  • Participation and/or knowledge in occupational safety in a workplace, whether serving on a safety committee, program development or policy awareness
  • Ability to effectively prioritize multiple projects with deadlines in a busy environment and provide measures to ensure effective resolution
  • Deliver engaging and effective in-person training and presentations in individual or group settings, positively coach employees individually on job tasks necessary for improvement
  • Ability to work along with warehousing and driving operations in various roles to job shadow for process compliance
  • Ability to communicate proficiently and provide and receive both verbal and written instruction for clear, effective dialogue
  • Ability to recognize opportunities for improvement and orchestrate effective solutions
  • Writing skills suitable to develop technical processes and procedures
  • Ability to be selective on sharing of sensitive information
  • Be willing to become certified in training regimes including but not limited to HACCP, Food Protection Manager Certification, food defense and general food safety training if not already certified
  • Ability to achieve a Lean Six Sigma Green Belt
  • Understand the personal responsibility to follow all safety policies and health rules, programs and procedures, to report all unsafe acts, environment or behaviors immediately and to always report safety issues, incidents or near miss events immediately.
  • Must be a model of a safe workplace and assist in leading team members to build a strong safety culture through expectation, support and compliance.

Working Conditions

This work is performed in both an office and warehouse environment either sitting at a computer terminal or walking through the warehouse and offsite locations, working alongside warehouse staff in their tasks.
