The Volunteer Manager plays a vital role in bringing Camp Rainbow Gold’s mission to life by building, supporting, and sustaining a strong, engaged volunteer community. This role is ideal for someone who is highly organized and detail-oriented, but who also enjoys connecting with people, recruiting volunteers, and representing CRG in the community through regular presentations and outreach. The Volunteer Manager oversees all aspects of CRG’s Volunteer Program, from recruitment and onboarding to training, scheduling, recognition, and retention. This position builds and maintains relationships with volunteers, community partners, and staff to ensure volunteers feel prepared, valued, and connected to our mission.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Plan, organize, engage and lead the volunteer program/service
- Serve as the point of contact for CRG staff in need of volunteers
- Lead CRG in volunteer management techniques and the development of new volunteer positions
- Implement goals and objectives for the volunteer program which reflect the mission of the organization
- Lead the entire volunteer onboarding and placement process starting at recruitment
- Ensure the volunteer application system is streamlined to provide an effective application process for volunteers
- Develop and administer forms and records to document the volunteer activities utilizing Bloomerang as the main tool to collect the data for volunteers
- Be present onsite during camp sessions in Fairfield to support volunteers and actively manage the volunteer program in a fast-paced camp environment
- Represent CRG and the volunteer program through frequent community presentations and outreach
- Work closely with Program Director to plan and facilitate all aspects of volunteer trainings
- Ensure that volunteers are given appropriate training to be successful in their positions
- Plan and implement formal and informal volunteer recognition activities and events
- Ensure that volunteers work in a safe, healthy, and supportive environment
- Write or reassess position descriptions for each individual volunteer position
- Regularly assess and update volunteer handbook that contains policy and procedures, basic orientation material, service area job descriptions and general training materials
- Work in cooperation with staff at all levels to facilitate good relationships between volunteers and staff
- Oversee volunteers at CRG large events, including making assignments and onsite coordination
- Represent CRG and the volunteer program through frequent community presentations and outreach
- Maintain active relationships with community partners to recruit and grow volunteer program
- Communicate with professional organizations connected to volunteer program development
- Assist Marketing Department on the monthly volunteer newsletter and other communication methods to keep volunteers engaged and informed
- Manage volunteer program budget and ensure all expenses stay within set budget
- Preform additional duties as assigned
QUALIFICATIONS
- Two years of nonprofit experience or working with volunteers
- Bachelor’s degree preferred
- Experience working with individuals and groups of all ages
- Excellent organizational and time management skills, ability to multi-task and prioritize work flow
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills
- Public speaking/facilitation skills
- Self-motivated with ability to work well independently and as part of a team
- Proficient in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel and PowerPoint)
- Ability to work with effectively people from diverse backgrounds and skillsets
- Personal qualities of integrity, credibility, and a commitment to and passion for Camp Rainbow Gold's mission
- Professional demeanor and ability to manage confidential information with discretion
- Must pass background check
