Glocal Garden Program Manager

Job Description

The Garden Program Manager directs and manages the Glocal Gardens at Living Stones Church property. The manager is responsible for deciding who will garden, helps to create community amongst the gardeners and makes sure the gardens remain in good, working conditions. 

The work requires 20 or so hours during garden season and less than 15 in the off season.  

Responsibilities

Glocal Garden Manager Responsibilities

  • Direct and manage the Glocal gardens

  • Manage Family Garden plot assignments

  • Collect annual garden fee for each gardener

  • Maintain good communication with the gardeners

  • Attend monthly Team Meetings

  • Organize Teams (both volunteers and gardeners) for garden work days 

  • Hold a beginning of the season Garden Meeting

  • End of the Gardening Season - Clean up and prep for the winter

  • Hold an end of season ‘Harvest Party’

 

General Responsibilities

  • File monthly report with activities, associated costs and donations

  • Use the database to record Gifts in Kind, donations, thank yous, etc.

  • Reports to the Program Manager

Qualifications

  • Experience in small-scale sustainable farming or gardening in Idaho, from planting to harvest

  • Ability to do hard, physical work

  • Enjoy being outdoors

  • Basic understanding of irrigation/watering systems

  • Adaptability to do practical tasks

  • Ability to communicate and work with teams of people

  • Excellent problem-solving, organizational, time-management and communication skills as well as self-motivation

  • Proficiency in office software (Google Drive, Microsoft Office Suite, Database). 

  • Proven leadership experience, with the ability to manage and motivate people to engage with refugees

  • Cross Cultural experience - ability to interact with a variety of clients, volunteers, and stakeholders with sensitivity and grace

Work Environment

  • A collaborative and mission-driven workplace focused on social impact

  • This position reports to the Program Manager and requires a hands-on approach alongside program staff to ensure the success of the organization’s operations and programs

Physical Demands

  • Ability to work outside during spring, summer, fall seasons.

  • Ability to lift up to 50 pounds or more and to work in the dirt. 

  • Ability to work in an office environment and attend in-person meetings and events

  • Travel to the garden location(s) and to the office. Travel to stores to buy supplies as needed.

  • Promoting Community Connections by organizing dinners, picnics and other community events including Peace Feasts that involve discussions covering issues that concern Muslims and Christians, in partnership with Peace Catalyst and the Islamic Center of Boise.

  • Collecting donations of furniture and household items to help set up a home for new neighbors.
